About Me

Dr Candice Gurney

Clinical Psychologist

About me

I am a Clinical Psychologist (qualifying in 2020) and registered with and regulated by the Health & Care Professions Council (HCPC).

I have worked within many NHS mental health settings including community, forensic, hospital, as well as, specialist personality disorder services and learning disability services. I have a wide range of experience which includes working with relational difficulties, personality difficulties, trauma, low mood, anxiety and problems regulating emotions.

I draw upon a range of therapeutic modalities including Schema Therapy and Mentalization Based Therapy (MBT) which I have taken further training and qualification within. I also draw upon Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Compassion Focused Therapy (CFT), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), and Informed Cognitive Analytical Therapy. I have a special interest in Schema Therapy which aims to address unmet needs and help clients to break patterns of thinking, feeling and behaving, which are often causing them distress, and to develop healthier alternatives to replace these thoughts, feelings and behaviours.

My areas of specialism and interest are Adult Mental Health and Forensic Mental Health and Behaviour. I have extensive experience of working with clients who have experienced trauma, those presenting with personality difficulties and forensic behaviours.

The therapeutic relationship is of great importance to me and I hope to offer a safe environment for this to strive where clients can explore issues which may relate to their past, present or future. I work collaboratively to support clients to gain a full understanding of their difficulties and achieve agreed therapeutic goals.

Excellence and professionalism is assured through adherence to Professional Practice and Clinical Guidelines and Codes of Conduct as laid out by the BPS and HCPC. I undertakes regular clinical supervision and continuing professional development.
